Responsibly Produced Peat (RPP)
RPP certification ensures that peat used for substrates comes from demonstrably responsible sources. Extraction is only permitted in peatlands that have already been degraded and shall not have any significant negative impact on High Conservation Values (HCV) . In addition, binding plans are required to ensure the most appropriate land use after extraction, with a strong focus on peatland restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate mitigation. Stakeholder consultations including with local communities and environmental NGOs, are part of both, the selection of the peat production area and the ‘after-use’ planning.
