Development of sustainability scheme for coir has begun
The need for sustainably produced products is growing rapidly. New regulations and legislation at national and international level, critical retail and a more conscious consumer promote this development also for growing media. Growing media are an essential part of the cultivation of many horticultural crops such as vegetables and herbs, but also ornamental and nursery crops. Coir products are an important raw material of growing media nowadays, leading to a growing demand for responsible production of coir products. As independent European knowledge centre for growing media since 1963, RHP has been asked by several coir producing companies to facilitate the development of a worldwide standard for the responsible production of coir.
With a kick-off meeting earlier this year for more than fifty international stakeholders, RHP initiated the development towards a scheme for responsible coir production. The orientation phase of the project Responsibly Produced Coir (RPC) has now been completed and the development of the sustainability scheme has started. More information
