This edition features the company Yara in our series: “RHP Stories: Committed to Quality.” In this series, we highlight RHP‑certified companies and invite them to share what certification means to them and what it has brought to their business.
Why certified?
“Yara (formerly Hydro Agri) has had a decades-long relationship with RHP. Yara produces, among other things, ‘PG mix’, fertilizers that serve as base fertilisation in potting soils. In addition, Yara’s Calcinit (calcium nitrate) is a fertilizer that is widely used under RHP certification. Yara is very aware of the necessity of reliable substrates for horticulture. Certification of our products for this application is therefore a ‘must’ for all of us.”
What has it brought you?
“Although Yara already produces all fertilizers through a strict internal quality process, even more attention is given to the production of ‘PG mix’. As a result, production has become even more streamlined, with additional control points. These extra requirements serve as an example for the production of other products. Our contact with RHP also provides technical input, for example through the Product Group or RHP webinars. This was already the case many years ago. The formulas 14-16-18, as well as 12-14-24 and 15-10-20, were once established by RHP and further developed by us.”
What makes you proud of the RHP certification?
“Yara looks back with satisfaction on the many years during which ‘PG mix’ has been successfully used in the potting soil industry. We are proud to see that ‘PG mix’ is no longer seen solely as a Yara brand, but that the name ‘PG mix’ is used more broadly to refer to base fertilisation in potting soils.”
Looking ahead
“We continuously monitor how the market is developing and what customers are asking for. Together with our Research & Development department, we aim to respond — sometimes reactively, but often proactively when developments take longer or when goals lie further ahead. The trend toward the use of renewable raw materials calls for new fertilizers. Yara aims to play an active role in this.”
Last but not least
“Yara considers close cooperation with RHP a natural choice. Anything that contributes to a strong horticultural sector is in everyone’s interest. RHP certification is essential to ensure that only the best raw materials are used. This minimizes the risk of cultivation problems. Working with strict standards is not a limitation, but a guarantee of success.”
