A Raw material for substrate THAT INCREASES the air content in peaty mixtures
Rice hulls are the hulls that come from rice. The rice hulls used under RHP quality mark come from Italy and are sterilised. In the so-called parboil-process rice grains and hulls are separated from each other and the product is also sterilised. As waste product of the rice culture, it has a sustainable character for potting soil and substrates.
Italy.
Rice hulls are used as an addition to potting soil for particularly pot plant nurseries and tree nurseries. Mixtures with rice hulls are also applied in for instance gerbera cultures. By adding rice hulls to peaty mixtures, the air content increases. This effect is caused by the specific form of the hulls that form cavities in the mixture in a way. The shrinkage in peaty substrates decreases under the influence of rice hulls. Rice hulls are a relatively fresh organic material. Degradation causes a temporary binding of nitrogen. This is often considered in the fertilisation. Rice hulls are rich in sicilicum and therefore should not be applied in crops that are sensitive to this.
RHP mainly checks at rice hulls if the sterilisation goes well. This is important because it is about an agricultural crop that could contain plant diseases.
