Clay granules or hydro granules

A substrate that retains little water and ENSURES A high air content in all culture circumstances

What are clay granules?

Clay granules are produced by heating heavy clay with special properties, as a result of which it expands. Expanded clay granules have a low bulk weight and a porous structure. Clay granules retain little water as substrate. But on the other hand there is a high air content in all culture circumstances. Clay granules are nearly wear resistant and form a very sustainable substrate with that. The product is available in broken and unbroken form in varied fractions. Because clay granules are produced at high temperatures it can be assumed that it does not contain any plant pathogen organisms like viruses, fungi and bacteria. But it is important that the product is stored and transported in a clean way.

Properties and application

Expanded clay granules are often used for office plants. In addition they are applied as a component in green roof substrates and as a substrate for various crops, like cucumber and rose.

Distinctive RHP quality

The production of clay granules can cause the development of plant harmful substances like fluorine. Also contents of trace elements and sulphates form a specific point of interest for RHP control.
