The International Peatland Society (IPS) celebrates its 50th anniversary from 11 to 13 September with a symposium and a gala evening on the ship ss Rotterdam. Prior to this, on Monday September 10th, the IPS will organise a Global Summit for senior executives of companies that mainly depend on peatlands and / or peat products.
Special attention is paid to Dutch landscape history, responsible peat production and the use of peat by horticulture. Attention is also paid to the consequences of subsidence of drained peatlands, such as CO2 emissions, subsided sewerage and infrastructure. During the symposium strategies are presented dealing with land subsidence.
