RHP Mushrooms

The substrate casing soil forms an important part in the culture of mushrooms. Casing soil takes care of a water buffer, in which mycelium develops as a basis for the mushrooms.

Function casing soil
The coarseness with which the casing soil is put on the soil beds is decisive for the size of the mushroom. The measure of cohesion or stickiness of the casing soil forms the main factor.

Measurable value
RHP executes in cooperation with the casing soil producers research into the physical characteristics of casing soil. In a first phase brought in casing soil was sampled ‘ in-situ' (undisturbed samples immediately from a culture situation) for that purpose. This research leads to more insight and to making possible the measurement of the physical characteristics of casing soils. At the moment, special analysis methods are in development, so that on the basis of these analysis methods a distinction can be made between several casing soils. With that, a basis is laid for handles for the mushroom grower.

Products RHP Mushrooms

  • Casing soil (Mushrooms)

Composition from several products which form together a substrate which is suitable for the culture of several mushrooms. The composition of the various raw materials is chosen in such a way, that a safe and practicable substrate exists, which complies with the requirements which EUREP-GEP draws up for a substrate.

  • Lime (Mushrooms)

Lime products (marl, Stone grindings, sieve belt lime) are essential at the production of casing soil. The lime products are used in order to give the desired pH (acidity) to the casing soil.

  • Coir products (Mushrooms)

The wide variety of coir materials used in the mushroom industry, such as coir dust and coir fibre, originate from the husk of the coconut. Coir dust is used as a substrate for a wide range of crops. Small quantities of coir fibre can be mixed into potting soil.

  • Foam soil (Mushrooms)

Foam soil is a collective name for Pressed lime cakes, Betacal en Carbo lime. Foam soil is a waste product from the sugar industry. Foam soil is applied in order to give the desired pH (acidity) to the casing soil.

  • Peat (Mushrooms)

Peat is bog moss (Sphagnum) which is decomposed under low-oxygen conditions. Peat for mushroom-casing is mainly produced in Germany. Several black peat products are applied. Peat that is applied is allowed to be non virgin peat.
